Lucem Pono - groupby ~Itherin

Artisan Crafts / Ceramics, Pottery & Clay / Other

Lucem Pono (group) is part of my final master's project from my MA in Design.

The vessels are made of several different mixes of porcelain and terracotta, which create the subtle colour palette. With these vessels I have explored the range of colours that the two clays create, and how the introduction of terracotta to the porcelain greatly alters the porcelain's translucency. This, and placement of the colours, create both interesting interiors as well as exteriors.

When I was working on this I wasn't sure what the result would be, and I was holding my breath when I took the first test out of the kiln, but it worked really well! Sometimes going outside tradition and taught practice creates beautiful results. Though sometimes I suppose it goes very very wrong. I was lucky!
These were pretty much dead on cone 8, fired at 100 degrees C per hour.
